Doctor Who – "Time Crash" for Pudsey October 22, 2007

Well the official BBC site and the next DWM have pictorial confirmation of Peter Davison’s brief return to the series for a “Children In Need” special next month. Entitled “Time Crash” it is written by Steven Moffat.

This raises a few questions for me, most obviously “will it be canon” ? (the 1983 and 2005 CiN specials were but few countenance the 1993 “Eastenders” crossover as canon for either series) , will they recreate the white ’80s TARDIS interior for Davison to appear in and will they use a companion actor (the 5th Doctor was never officially alone between stories – Big Finish used this to their advantage with Nyssa, Turlough and Peri expanding their ‘sole companion’ periods) ?

Spooky Totty – Raza Jaffrey October 17, 2007

Though I’m not immune to the charms of Rupert Penry Jones, my most fanciable member of the current “Spooks” line-up is Raza Jaffrey who plays Zaf. As of the first two episodes of season six (which I caught last night) his fate is unclear, but I hope we’ve not seen the last of him.

Two things you might not know about the actor: he was in the musical “Bombay Dreams” and has just married his “Spooks” co-star Miranda Raison. I predict very good looking offspring.

Another good reason to catch the new series is the addition of actress Gemma Jones to the team as of episode 2 in which her character Connie proves she can handle a USB stick for MI5 just as deftly as Louisa Trotter could run the Bentinck Hotel.

Gethin Jones: Strictly Come Dancing October 8, 2007

A delightful little compilation from a “Blue Peter” last week where the lovely Gethin’s appearance in the 2007 series of “Strictly Come Dancing” is used as another tenuous opportunity to strip him down, this time for a nearly-all-over spray tan from Zoe. (I’m sure we all remember the spontaneous chest waxing he got from Konnie and Liz a couple of years back …)

Glad to note he’s looking better than he did in the initial publicity shots with partner Camilla Dallerup.

And here’s some clips of the man in action, shaking his booty in his debut competition piece (a cha cha) on Saturday. Note the expert voiceover, which rated him higher than the fifth place the studio judges awarded.

and in a group swing dance screened on Sunday.

Obviously, it goes without saying that Gethin is my favourite of the men, but I think Dom Littlewood might be the dark horse.

Anglo-Saxon Totty – Harry Lloyd October 4, 2007

“Robin Hood” returns for a second series this weekend. Lead actor Jonas Armstrong has reputedly hired a personal trainer to buff up his bod and prepare for more shirtless shots (according to the new “Radio Times”).

I’m afraid I still prefer Harry Lloyd aka Will Scarlett, pictured above in a pose from the new run of episodes.

Harry has been a busy lad of late – as well as months of filming for this series out in Hungary he also managed to graduate from Oxford University in July and us “Doctor Who” fans were wowed by his performance as Baines/Son of Mine in “Human Nature”/“Family of Blood” in series 3. RTD went on to tip him as a future possibility for the Doctor himself!

He’s interviewed on location on the BBC mini-site.

And here’s a fansite devoted to the Scarlett one.

If the above three pictures (and those that feature in the new “Radio Times”) don’t lure you to BBC Two’s showing of “The Tudors” from next Friday (5 October) then the clip below from the season one finale might tip the balance. Wonderful direction here. Not to mention technique!

The official BBC site has confirmed filming of series 4 at Cinecitta studios in Rome. The episode concerns the fate of Pompeii as Vesuvius famously erupts. Guest stars are Peter Capaldi, Phil Davis and Tracey Childs.

The Pompeii scenario has been visited before in the wider world of “Doctor Who” – as a Big Finish audio adventure (featuring the seventh Doctor and Mel) entitled “The Fires of Vulcan” back in 2000.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate are pictured above during the location shoot earlier this month.

The BBC has released a publicity pic of the TARDIS pair as they appear in the as-yet-unnamed Agatha Christie episode. Donna (Catherine Tate) is in period gear.

BBC site report

Rumours also abound of filming abroad in Italy next month, for an ancient Rome themed story.

From the official BBC Doctor Who site:

“The Doctor and Donna book a date with Agatha Christie.

Filming is underway for Series Four of Doctor Who, with Catherine Tate reprising her role as Donna, the runaway bride featured in last year’s Christmas Special.

The start of the new series will see Donna tracking down the Time Lord during an alien emergency in modern-day London. The couple are destined to experience a series of wonderful adventures throughout the new series including meeting one of Doctor Who’s most popular aliens, The Ood in a brand new episode, Planet of The Ood.

Catherine Tate said: “I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey.”

Donna and The Doctor will also be travelling through time for an encounter with the legendary murder mystery novelist, Agatha Christie, played by Jekyll star Fenella Woolgar. Fenella will be joined by The Good Life actress Felicity Kendal, who will star as Lady Clemency Eddison.

“What a brilliant idea that Agatha Christie and Doctor Who should meet!,” noted Matthew Prichard, Agatha Christie’s grandson. “Two characters whose contribution to British entertainment is absolutely unrivalled. As far as I know my grandmother, Agatha Christie, never saw Doctor Who, but I am sure she would have been intrigued, excited and above all flattered by all this attention in 2007.”

Doctor Who’s executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies comments: “Visiting Agatha Christie has been on my wish-list for ages now, and for the Doctor, it’s a real meeting of minds! Viewers can expect many more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008.”

Blackadder and Notting Hill Actor Tim McInnerny will also guest star later in the series.

Freema Agyeman who has played Martha Jones, The Doctor’s companion throughout the critically acclaimed third series will return to the show to join The Doctor and Donna mid series.”

So now we have Richard Briers on “Torchwood” and Felicity Kendal on “Doctor Who” !
